There is a lot of confusion over the difference between a four star hotel and four star guest accommodation. The Lake is not an Hotel, it just offers bed & breakfast. In the old days, it would be called a Bed & breakfast Hotel, but now we are called guest accommodation and our star rating is based on this term. For a clearer idea of the difference in Hotels and Guest Accommodation try the Lake.
There is sometimes confusion in the spelling of the Isle of Wight. Isle
of White is the most popular mistake, other variations are Isle of Whyte,
Whight and even Wright! There are a good many more variations. European
visitors normally refer to ‘The Island of Wight’ and sometimes
even the Isle part is mis-spelt Ilse. One very popular abbreviation is IOW.
This IOW can be found whenever a short reference is needed and a lot of
Islanders use this IOW when they use it as part of as address.
The Island was originally called Vectis by the Romans, and some old maps
do spell the Island with White or Whyte
Any way, whatever way you spell it, a good start to staying on the Wight?
White? Whyte? is to stay here on the IOW at the
Lake.
